The reason I chose to do everything in DIP packages is so the average DIY'er can build it. I'd be happy to post the eagle files once i'd finished. Would you mind if i did a Surface mount version of this? Reason is that the component costs and build time can dramatically come down. I'll post more info about this project as it progresses.Īnyways, if there is any interest in this USB to DMX dongle project I may have some boards made up. This will also have a receiver that will take the wireless DMX signal and convert it back to wired DMX, so it will be compatible with any DMX system.

I have a preliminary design for the wireless DMX system and what I was thinking of doing is create a DMX dongle that is Enttec Pro compatible that will transmit wireless DMX as well. This came about because I am currently working on a WIRELESS DMX project and needed a "front end" device to talk to Vixen.

So you are probably asking why build a USB DMX dongle? I've also included images of the PCB in BMP format for those who don't have Eagle. I've uploaded the source code, documentation and schematics. I've been running it on the bench in protoboard form and so far it's working great. The firmware I've written does not use the receive capability of the hardware (yet), but I plan to add it in the future and I've decided to make the hardware compatible now. It's designed to use the same Enttec USB Pro plug-in that Vixen (and other DMX software) use, and the hardware is "RDM ready". Well probably so, but what makes this one a little different is it's Enttec USB Pro compatible, it's AVR based (Atmega88) and I've decided to release it as an open source project. OK, you're probably thinking "what, another DMX dongle?"
